I strongly believe that it is my job to teach French in a way that is meaningful to a student’s everyday world. I want to make my students aware that language is a key to unlocking other cultures. Understanding another culture broadens perspectives, opens up minds, and empowers students to succeed and take part as responsible citizens in the world.
French is the 5th most spoken language in the world. There are some 300 million French speakers worldwide which means French ranks as the 5th most spoken language globally, behind Chinese, English, Spanish and Arabic. My role, as a teacher, will be to prepare students to become successful life-long learners. I want my students to love learning French and I will do all I can to make that happen. I am very fortunate to be able to integrate my many life experiences being a French citizen and living in France into my lessons. My intention is for every student to be inspired by the world around them. I do not expect each student to be "the best" but I expect each student to do their best. I will give all students a safe classroom environment where they can develop a growth mindset and learn to take risks. I desire to create this type of atmosphere where students can meet their full potential. I will provide differentiated instruction such as hands-on materials, student choices, stations, and technology. My overall goal is to move students toward communicative competence and an appreciation for francophone cultures. The French courses that I teach are not only to learn the grammatical basics of French, but more importantly to develop a successful working proficiency in the four skill areas of speaking, listening, reading, and writing where aspects of French and francophone cultures are explored within the language learning context. Feel free to check out the Danielson's Framework which is the road map for powerful teaching that I will use and should be used by every effective teacher.
